Episode 5: QIK iPhone, GV and WordPress

June 17th, 2008

The fifth episode of the Litturl podcast is here! Still hosted by me, Ollie Parsley. I will be taking you through the top 5 urls from Litturl.com this week.

5th most visited url: litturl.com/s6c
This URL is a link to the latest episode of Revision3’s internet superstar which features Gary Vay-Ner-Chuk of wine library and his awesome show wine library tv! I am quite sure this is more than a coincidence that he appears on a Internet Superstar as wine library tv is actually coming to Revision3 on June 23rd! Anyway check out the episode at litturl.com/s6c and check out wine library tv and winelibrarytv.com even if you don’t like wine just go have a look!

4th most visited url: litturl.com/3kt
This link is about the App Store coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch on 27th June. Check it out at the Unofficial Apple Weblog.

3rd most visited url: litturl.com/hsc
This blog post is about the new Technorati blog advertising network that is almost ready for launch. Check out the link for more details!

2nd most visited url: litturl.com/syk
Do you have an out of date WordPress blog? By out of date I mean the software of course. Well if you do then you might well have been hacked. Check out the link for information on how to avoid being hacked!

Most visited url: litturl.com/mpt
Back up to number one is a link to my blog post about QIK coming to the iPhone. There is a small update to it. The latest news is that sometime this week QIK will be launching the app to the Jailbroken iPhone community. Check out the link for more info.

Thats all for this week. Let me know what you think of these URL’s. Don’t forget that today (june 17th) is Firefox Download Day!

Cheers!

Ollie

Episode 4: Apple Keynote, Cheating and FeedMorf

June 10th, 2008

The fourth episode of the Litturl podcast is here! Still hosted by me, Ollie Parsley. I will be taking you through the top 5 urls from Litturl.com this week.

5th most visited url: litturl.com/rur
This URL should technically have been at number one but as it was done by cheating the system I have downgraded it to number 5. I should have deleted it but I give Teifion kudos for the effort he put in. He actually created a script to open Safari redirect to his blog via the litturl url, close safari and then repeat over and over again once every 10 seconds for over an hour. It was a good effort but really easy to spot the same IP address! Nice try!

4th most visited url: litturl.com/g3a
This is a link to a page on Apple.com about movies finally coming to the Canadian and UK iTunes stores. For almost a year now we have been able to download an increasing list of TV shows but Apple have finally agreed with all the movie creators to distribute their movies in these stores. This makes the Apple TV set top box a bit more enticing as you can also rent movies.

3rd most visited url: litturl.com/w2b
The 3rd most visited URL this week is a blog post from FeedMorf talking about a new feature that has been launched. FeedMorf is a site where you can put an RSS feed into a really simple form, check a few options and get one line of JavaScript back that can print the RSS feed in useful English on a website. This new feature is a new add on that allows you to get rid of images and other html code from the printed code so that you get plain text back. This can be a lot easier for users to read.

2nd most visited url: litturl.com/mpt
Back in at number 2 is the blog post I wrote about QIK coming to the iPhone. I have spoken about it in episode 1 and episode 2 so check them out

Most visited url: litturl.com/n2a
Brand new at number 1 is a litturl that only got created yesterday but because of the buzz surrounding it the URL has flown right to the top. Yesterday (the 9th of June) Steve Jobs gave his keynote speech at the WorldWide Developer Conference and launched the 3G iPhone, MobileMe and a quick preview of Snow Leopard, the new version Mac OS X. The url goes to a page where you can watch the keynote. Alternatively if you have a fast enough connection you can search for the Apple Keynote podcast and download the 1.2 gig file and watch it over and over again.

Thats all for this week. Let me know what you think of these URL’s. :)

Cheers!

Episode 3: Homer, Muff and Firefox World Record

June 3rd, 2008

The third episode of the Litturl podcast is noew live! Still hosted by me, Ollie Parsley. I will be taking you through the most popular litturls created at Litturl.com this week. There is a change in intro music and stings this week so let me know what you think!

5th most visited url: litturl.com/64a
It is actually a link to a photo of my girlfriends new hamster that we have named muff! If you do fancy having a look at my girlfriends muff then click the link above . Sorry Hannah!

4th most visited url: litturl.com/fju
This is a link to the new Google Earth API. It’s a neat little add-on to the Google maps API that allows you to view Google Earth inside a browser. You do need to download a plug-in to view it though. So I ask you this, which do you prefer? The Google Earth plug-in or the Microsoft’s Virtual Earth plug-in? Answers can be posted on comments section of the site.

3rd most visited url: litturl.com/t3s
This URL is a link to some information about the Firefox World Record attempt. It involves is as many people downloading the new Firefox web browser version 3 in one day as possible. Hundreds of thousands of people have signed up and pledged their download, so you can! This is your chance to be part of history! It will be on some time in the next month, if you pledge your download you will receive an e-mail with more information.

2nd most visited url: litturl.com/ac2
In at number two is the creepiest image I have seen in ages. Its a real life impression of what Homer Simpson would look like. It’s really cleverly done in photoshop by a guy called Jax from pixaloo. Beware it could freak you out like it did with me!

Most visited url: litturl.com/6ng
Still at number one this week is the new video from Weezer called Pork and beans. It is a cool video that’s recreating some of the stupid things YouTube celebs have done and is obviously trying to get viral and it seems to be succeeding as it has millions of views on YouTube in it’s first week.

Thats all for this week. Let me know what you think of these URL’s. Don’t forget to post me your comments on the new music!

Cheers!

Episode 2: JavaScript Mario, Litturl API and Pork & Beans

May 27th, 2008

The second episode of the Litturl podcast is here! Still hosted by me, Ollie Parsley. I will be taking you through the most popular litturls created at Litturl.com this week. I will get straight into it.

5th most visited url: litturl.com/mpt
This one I covered last week. It’s a post I wrote about QIK coming to the iPhone. I don’t want to bore you with it again so check it out. Or listen to it on the previous episode!

4th most visited url: litturl.com/rjg
This is a completely pointless link to a twitter application called autofriendadded. It seems to me to be an app that just adds a stupid number of friends, I wouldn’t even call them friends as it just makes you follow the person. The application follows about 27,000 people and only has a few hundered follow it. Pointless! Anyway onto the next URL!

3rd most visited url: litturl.com/nhd
The 3rd most visited URL this week is from a guy who created a Mario Kart game using just JavaScript. I didn’t believe it myself but I had a play on it and it is surprisingly good for a bit of code that is less than 14 kilobytes!

2nd most visited url: litturl.com/jdb
This is another blog post I wrote. It’s all about the launch of the Litturl API! It is so simple and it allows you to create small urls in exactly the same way litturl does. For example “http://litturl.com/xyz” its really simple to implement (everything is in the api documentation). If you are interested in the API I am looking for some people to test it in more depth then I have so check it out.

Most visited url: litturl.com/6ng
New at number one is the new video from Weezer called Pork and beans. It’s an awesome video that takes the mick out of various YouTube celebrities. I think its sounds pretty cool, I highly recommend you check the video.

Thats all for this week. Let me know what you think of these URL’s

Cheers!

May 17th, 2008

Woop it’s finally here. The first episode of the Litturl podcast is alive. Hosted by me, Ollie Parsley. I will be taking you through the most popular litturls created at Litturl.com. Obviously being the first episode there will be some rough edges. So all feedback will be greatly appreciated. Oh and don’t forget to subscribe using the links on the right side of the page!

This is a link to Daniel Burka’s talk at the Future Of Web Design. If you don’t know who Daniel Burka is, he is one of the founders of Pownce and creative director at Digg.com. If your a web designer then the talk is for you.

4th most visited url: litturl.com/f3e
A post I created about how to make a “undergoing maintenance” web page better. This all started after I viewed the twitter error page. It was so boring and really un-useful! This then jogged my memory about adBrite.com’s error page that has pacman on it!

3rd most visited url: litturl.com/725
The Twitterific download page! A twitter client used primarily by Mac owners. If you don’t use Twitter you need to sign up! Friend me up at twitter.com/olliedude2k

2nd most visited url: litturl.com/mpt
This is another one of mine. It’s about QIK, the mobile live video streaming application coming to the iPhone. I contacted QIK and had a brief conversation with Jane and she said that they are working on a QIK version for the iPhone.

Most visited url: litturl.com/tuj
It is the signup page to download the new Nine Inch Nails album The Slip! I went to the url, downloaded the album and loved it! If you have a favourite track leave a comment!

Thats all for this week. Let me know what you think!

Cheers!
